This course focuses on key concepts designed to train first responders in Large Animal Rescue
The training is accomplished over two days:
Day 1: Lectures and basic labs on how current emergency services training can be reframed to protect the safety of personnel, the public, and the animals we are trying to help in Large Animal Rescue situations. This includes instruction on analyzing the animals’ behavior and their responses to the actions taken by rescuers.
Day 2: Lectures and advanced labs. This includes general and critical concepts such as immediately available containment, some direct manipulation techniques, and an overview of trailer incident management. Some of the topics and instruction begin to introduce Operations level guidelines but are limited to safety concepts and increasing efficiency while on the scene.
This class utilizes 960-pound articulated training mannequins to turn theory into practice and is formatted to meet the guidelines as presented in Chapter 17 of the NFPA 1670-2014 edition.
This course will offer 7 RACE credits per day for veterinarians. All attendees will leave with a printed certificate of completion.
